Placid Lake

The Placid Lake property, an all-log home ready for updates, had parameters that at first glance were constricting, but ultimately, through ongoing conversation with the homeowners, fueled an evolution of iterations, culminating in clever storage solutions and a cohesive design. We worked with the lovely clients to stay true to the home’s natural beauty and integrity, while bringing a fresh color palette and modern features. Timeless materials, including natural stone (granite on the island and quartzite on the perimeter, hutch, living room, and vanity cabinets), antique brass, quarter sawn white oak, and a paint color with just enough depth to keep it interesting, easily transcend trends. See our ‘Features’ tab for more Placid Lake details.

Greenfield

The Greenfield project testifies to the potential of bringing old soul to a fresh new build. The homeowners happen to be Liz’s sister’s family, and we worked very closely with them in order to personalize aesthetic and function. With cabinetry design and color, mixing metals and finishes, this home is inviting and sparks imagination. It’s one of our favorite places to be!

W. Buckman

As the third generation living in this sweet old farmhouse, our clients were ready for an extensive remodel, and asked us to design the kitchen + dining + family room floor plan. It was a joy to work with them as we brainstormed layout, materials, lighting, and colors according to each room’s purpose. Family togetherness is of the utmost importance to the folks at W. Buckman Farmhouse! Opening up the kitchen while keeping rooms defined provides a peek at all the household happenings without being in the middle of a card game during dinner prep. The rise behind the Ilve range is the epitome of ‘necessity is the mother of invention’, as we considered how to keep little hands safe while watching grandparents cook. Our stone fabricator did an amazing job executing our vision! Thanks to a kindly Providence and a keen awareness, we were able to source the six stools second hand.

Camp Lake

The wise clients at our Camp Lake project knew they wanted red cabinets, so when we tried to steer them toward a muted country blue, they (kindly) stood their ground. We’re so glad they did! They’re generous folks who love to entertain, so this warm and inviting hue suits them well. The talented homeowner built the range hood and timber shelves. Integrated appliances bring both continuity and functionality, with all the essentials for entertaining at the ready. The kitchen feels clean and up to date, while antique collections still look at home.

Ironton Farm

The family at Ironton Farm wanted to honor the history of their 100 year old farmhouse, drawing out unique features- like brick found in the kitchen wall where there’s now a wine rack- while adding modern functionality. Classic marble brings charm and sophistication, while the sleek, over-sized pulls bring modern edge to the kitchen. The entryway features an oak floating bench that leaves room to tuck shoes. Integrating the security system and light switches in the wall panel camouflages utilitarian necessities. The original stone fireplace remains a focal point in the living room, with the addition of traditional trim work in a dramatic color. The metal wood box adds charm and practicality in protecting the cabinetry. The updates are personal, practical, and pretty as a picture.

 Upper Gull Cottage

This seasonal-getaway-turned-home is a new build filled with old charm. Simple and sweet, this home invites real life and real relaxation. Layers of understated details on the cabinetry- like hand painted brush strokes, diamond pattern holes, and bracketed open shelves- give the main living area a homey feel. The built-in dressers and simple night tables bring a sense of continuity to the bedrooms as well.

 Cass Co. Cabin

This home away from home is nestled in the north woods overlooking a lake- which makes it an ideal destination for family and friends to visit often. The cabinetry is primarily Knotty Alder, which compliments the exposed logs throughout the main living area. Natural wood finishes are smart in high-traffic rooms that are being pushed to meet their full potential (hosting many excited people).

 Birch Island

With classic elements such as Carrera marble and chrome hardware, this kitchen is always fashionable.

Crosby Classic

Traditional and efficient, this primary bath is in a historic home that had interesting window placement and general slant. The challenge was bringing it forward, both in efficiency and aesthetics. White oak cabinetry in a classic style with applied molding, drop-pull handles, and soapstone counters, alongside the laundry chute cabinet featuring punched tin door panels, make for a classic look while still having the modern convenience of drawers that slide easily and interiors that don’t smell. The laundry room also got a revamp, including a utility faucet with enough clearance to safely water and repot all the houseplants.
